I received an email message saying that my account was locked for security reasons. It provides a web link so that I can update my information and re-activate my account. Is this true?
No, it is not true. This email message is likely a Phishing attempt. Phishing is sending illicit email messages that appear to come from a legitimate source. The email attempts to lure the reader into clicking a link that appears to go to a legitimate web address, but the actual link is to a fraudulent, look-alike site. There user names, passwords and additional personal information are collected for later illegal use.
At Winchester Federal Bank, we will only send you an email message for the following reasons:
1. To respond to a message sent by you.
2. To communicate your approval to use Online Banking.
3. To confirm your account in Payment Center.
4. At your request, to notify you that scheduled transfers and payments were completed.
5. At your request, to remind you when a bill is due, when a bill is not paid by the due date, or when the payment has been sent.
6. To periodically survey our customers about our products and services.
We will NEVER send you an email message asking for nonpublic personal information such as your name, address, User ID, password, security questions and answers, account numbers, Social Security Number, date of birth, and other confidential information. Additionally, you should never send an email message to us that contains nonpublic personal information.
As an Online Banking user, you have the option of sending secure messages to us. This service can be accessed once you login by choosing Secure Messaging from the Options menu. In Payment Center, you may send a secure message by clicking on the Messages link in the bottom, right-hand corner of the page.
Please contact us at (859)744-1900 or (859)744-1939 if you receive an email message that you believe to be suspicious. We may ask you to forward the email message to us.
